Designed and launched a user-centered mobile app for one of Belarus’s largest pet retail chains, increasing order capacity without significant increases in operating costs.
Problem & goal
01
Business context
The business wanted to establish a strong mobile presence without significantly increasing operational costs. While the client already had a successful web application and an established digital shopping experience, it had no dedicated mobile app.
With pet owners aged 20–60 using smartphones for everyday activities and online shopping, establishing a mobile presence represented a significant opportunity to reach customers in a more convenient and engaging way.
02
The challenge of translating an existing experience

User research
CustDev interviews
My focus was on:
↳ How users use their mobile phones for shopping
↳ What would make them choose a dedicated shopping mobile app over a website
↳ What makes a mobile shopping experience convenient or frustrating
Competitive research
I analyzed competing mobile commerce experiences to understand common patterns, identify opportunities, and uncover potential friction points. The benchmark included global e-commerce leaders such as Amazon and Walmart, pet-commerce platforms such as Chewy, major local market e-commerce players such as Ozon and Wildberries, and direct competitors operating in Belarus.

Building the user flow
The existing web product gave us valuable insights into user behavior and friction points across the shopping process. By mapping the core mobile user flows, we identified which challenges might carry over to mobile and simplified them early in the design process — before moving into development and feasibility related issues.
